Fire Prevention Week is coming up, and Sparky the Fire Dog (and Arcata Fire) want to make sure that you are taking all of the steps to make Smoke Alarms WORK for YOU!
STEP 1: Install
Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area (like a hallway), and on each level (including the basement) of the home. Anywhere heat/fire could be produced like the kitchen and garage (if garage has a washing machine or dryer) or closet in the home.
STEP 2: Test
Test smoke alarms at least once a month by pushing the test button. Never hurts to have a reminder on the fridge or in any place you see often!
STEP 3: Replace
Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old or stop responding when tested. If your smoke alarm(s) are yellowing in color, it is time to replace them regardless of if they respond when being tested.
These three simple tips can help keep your family, housemates and pets safe in the event of a fire in the home.
