Looking for CPR or First-Aid classes?
Only 32% of cardiac arrest victims receive CPR from a bystander. Performing CPR immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival.
The Arcata Volunteer Firefighters Association (AVFA) offers cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED), and First-Aid classes for lay rescuers. In these classes, students learn how to recognize the signs of a cardiac emergency, and how to sustain life with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation until emergency medical help can arrive. This is a skill anyone in the community can learn.
Basic classes offered are NOT suitable for those needing Professional Rescuer or Health Professional CPR.

Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) classes are designed for individuals who need CPR training suitable for professional rescuers or medical professionals to re-certify.
Classes are held in the Classroom at the Arcata Downtown Station: 631 9th Street, Arcata, CA 95521. Monthly classes may be canceled and/or rescheduled if the class size is not adequate for instruction. Additionally, AVFA may, upon request, be able to come to your place of business to instruct.
Classes take place (typically) 4th Saturday of the month. Some dates may change due to holidays. Class dates for 2026 are as follows:

-Classes on Thursdays are held from 5:30pm - 9:30pm.
-Classes on Saturdays are held from 8:00am - 4:30pm.
